Snowy Time Survival Guide

Winter is my favorite season. I love the bone-biting chill of an icy morning, the numerous blankets I get to pile on my bed, and the glittery confetti-like snow that makes even the cemetery next door look cheerful.

Also, Winter has the best clothes.

When it’s cold outside I love curling up with tea and an RPG. Not any game will do, however. Only a few have that true cold-weather vibe.

The best are Dragon Quest IV and Final Fantasy V. I played both of these during the coldest, darkest days of the year and they resonate years afterward. Shin Megami Tensei games and Western RPGs strike me as more summer/fall activities. You want something moving a slow yet determined pace when shielding yourself from the cold.

This winter I have absorbed myself in Dragon Quest IX and it is completely worth it.

Really? I would say MegaTen games have a more Fall/Winter feel to me. Not getting a summer vibe off any except maybe P3.

    • I think it might be that I always pick them up in the summer. They also annoy me a lot more than slow-paced games like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Their emphasis is more on story than grinding. Grinding is a hot coca-sipping activity for me.
